We are a collaborative assortment of local organic farmers dedicated to providing healthy, delicious food to our community at reasonable prices. We are the same farmers whose produce you see at the Ukiah Co-op and Mariposa Market, you know some of us through farmers' markets, and we supply many of your favorite restaurants throughout the year.
Our intention with this CSA is to help build a more involved and interactive local community based on appreciation of the diversity of good food grown in Mendocino County. As with other CSAs, you are investing in the farms that produce your food, rather than simply buying items off the shelf. What you receive is the actual local harvest available each week.
What is different about the Farmer's Kitchen? Instead of one farm supplying the majority of items in your CSA basket, your weekly share will be sourced from a variety of farms across the county. That way every farm can provide its very best, and you benefit from that diversity. For example, during the heat of summer it's difficult to grow lettuce in inland areas, but on the coast the climate is just about perfect for greens year round. And the inland areas can focus on crops that thrive in the heat, like melons, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
You can supplement your weekly share with orders placed through our members-only online store, for items such as eggs, meats, fresh bread baked with locally grown flour, and seasonal abundances of fresh fruit, canning tomatoes, and other farm specials that will change week by week.
Our deliveries begin on June 12, and run through October. We will also have one delivery in November and another one in December, both right before the holidays.
We have a pick-up site in Ukiah, and another in Willits. Pick-up times are Tuesdays from 4-6pm for both sites.
Our pick-up approach offers flexible options. You pack your own basket, so that you can choose which items you will be eating in the coming week. So if you don't think you like kohlrabi, you aren't forced to take any home (though it's always good to be open to trying new things). We also provide a regular newsletter and recipes to help you enjoy all the bounty this county has to offer..
